Custom MTGO Art

If anyone watches my videos or stream, you'll see that I'm a pretty big fan of customizing magic online art. Note that this only works for version 3, and will sadly most likely be impossible when the new UI is released fully.

1. Navigate to: C:\Program Files\Wizards of the Coast\Magic Online\Graphics\Cards\Pics

2. Find the picture you want to replace.  They are roughly sorted by first appearance in a paper set, chronologically (Alpha at the top, Gatecrash at the bottom).

3. Edit the image in paint, for normal cards the image size is 256x188 pixels, but this may vary.  Check the bottom-left corner of your paint window for full dimensions.  You will likely have to scale your new image down, and crop out some portions.

4. Save your image.  If you haven't looked at that particular art in the current MTGO session, you should see it right away (art hasn't been loaded into memory yet).  If you have, you'll need to restart MTGO.

My MTGO Art
When I customize my art for MTGO, they're often cards that I play in decks that I simply don't like the art for.  When I want new art, there are 3 major ways I'll get some new art.
1 - Existing Magic Art.  If I think a promo version or other card has better/more appropriate art, I'll just use the existing mtgo files.   Sometimes I'll do some rudimentary editing in GIMP, such as my Supreme Verdict Art shown below.
2 - Epilogue.net.  This site is a nice hub of fantasy art in a variety of media.
3 - DeviantArt.com.  This site has a much wider range of art in terms of quality, but the sheer volume is much bigger.

Note: All these filenames are correct for the folder described in step 1 above.  Downloading them to that folder should install them automatically.  Simply click the card name to download them. Since I found most of these a while ago, I can't provide links to exact sources, but int the future I'll make sure to keep track of them.

I OWN NONE OF THESE IMAGES. I am simply providing them to you cropped and renamed and occasionally edited for your convenience. If you are the owner of these images and would like credit for them, please email me at zak.turchansky-AT-gmail.com and I'll be happy to link your site or whatever. Any existing MTG images are copyright Wizards of the Coast, and can be obtained by downloading Magic Online v3. Any Dota 2 images belong to Valve. Any Mario/Pokemon images belong to Nintendo.

I wanted some new art for my fulla rt Islands for pauper delver. There are 3 files in the MTGO Pics folder for each ZEN full art land and this file is the one that's actually displayed in the client. The extended fram overlaps on the image file so there is some whiteness around the edges in the image, but that is not seen in the file. Image found on DeviantArt: http://browse.deviantart.com/art/Ocean-Storm-123225488.

I took the classic Kev Walker Wrath of God Art and tinted it blue for the uncounterable version.  All 4 mana sweepers are wraths at heart.

I took the classic image of Uktabi Orangutang (aka Buttsex Monkeys) and saw that it looks really nice on a red card.

Found this art of DeviantArt. Unlike the original, actually a path.

Pretty sure the promo art is just better.

I'm a casual dota fan and though Puck would make a reasonable Delver.

SOOOOO CUUUUUTTTTTEEEEEE!!!!!!

If you didn't cry during this scene in Pokemon, the First Movie, then you're not human.

Ok, so planeswalkers are a bit different. You actually get way more leeway because you get to edit the entire card. This file must be placed in C:\Program Files\Wizards of the Coast\Magic Online\Graphics\Cards\Frame. For this image, I just took the Pro Tour Ajani Goldmane art and worked it up a wee bit in GIMP (yes, I'm bad :P).

Nothing beats a good old-fashioned Power Star from Super Mario.

Recently the art for the spirit tokens generated by Lingering Souls was changed to that of the Oyobi, who Split the Heavens 3/3 spirits. I figured that would be a good enough reason to change up the art.

Gifts Given is too sweet a concept to be relegated to silver-bordered land.

This download links to a zip file with all 5 arts which you'll need to extract into the Pics folder. These replace Onslaught basic lands which you can get for free from several free bots (at least that's how I got them). You can always rename them to match any basic lands you have in your collection.

Same as above, unzip the file into pix directory. Innistrad basics are even newer so they should be very easy to find.
